Sunday, December 15, 2013 1:30PM to 4:00PM Note: Setup will start at 1:00 Dancing will be begin at 1:30 at Cuyahoga County Public Library - SOLON BRANCH Carol Kopp returns to JASNA ONC by popular demand to give us a dance lesson that will take us back to Jane’s own time as we celebrate her 238th birthday. She will instruct us in the proper methods of Regency dance to the accompaniment of live music provided by Toad in the Hole. We are very fortunate to have this excellent dance master and these talented musicians give us an authentic experience. In addition, Carol will invite some skilled dancers to help round out our sets. Dress comfortably and wear comfy shoes. And if you’d like, you can dress up Regency style! For those who prefer not to dance, we will have a small card table for whist, with instructions. Celebrating 200 Years of Pride and Prejudice Sunday, October 27, 2013 1:00PM to 4:00PM *Earlier time* at Cuyahoga County Public Library - SOLON BRANCH AGM RECAP - This year’s JASNA AGM in Minneapolis, Minnesota was attended by over 750 Austen devotees. We heard from scholars and specialists, we bought books and Regency era clothes and accessories, we dined and danced, and most of all, we conversed about our favorite author. Please join us at our next meeting for our traditional AGM recap. We’ll have door prizes, pictures and stories, and we’ll do our best to bring the AGM experience to our members who could not attend. We’re PLAYING GAMES! SUNDAY September 22, 2013 - 1:00-4:00 PM (*note earlier time*) at Cuyahoga County Public Library - SOLON BRANCH It’s been a long summer break, and we’re ready to get together again and talk about Jane Austen! For our first meeting this fall, we’re going to try our hand at some Austenesque entertainments. Whist or Speculation? Loo anyone? We know little of the games at present, but we shall be glad to improve ourselves. We’ll bring the rules for these games and decks of cards, and we’ll play on teams. We can take turns so we all get a chance to try each game. We’ve got a new game to play this fall: Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice Trivia Game . If you like the trivia game you can buy one for $7.50, with profits donated to the Region’s treasury.

Who Was the Real Lady Susan? Find out SUNDAY March 3, 2013 - 1:30-4:00 PM at Cuyahoga County Public Library - SOLON BRANCH Please join us in welcoming special guest Dr. Rachel Carnell of Cleveland State University as guest speaker at our next meeting March 3, 2013 at the Solon Library. As the CSU English department's specialist in eighteenth-century British literature, Dr. Carnell has a wealth of information about Austen and her world to share. We’ll be given a special treat, as she’ll be previewing a new publication in which she interprets Lady Susan as covert political history. Did Austen’s writing hide criticisms of powerful political movers and shakers of her era? Is Lady Susan based on the Duchess of Marlborough? Professor Carnell will not only teach us more about one of Austen’s most memorable characters, but also enlighten us about some of the important historical figures whose famous (or infamous) exploits may have influenced her works.
